Newly Diagnosed

By JimBr Wednesday, May 21, 2008

Hello all

I am a newly diagnosed middle aged "diabetic" and frankly I have always hated to tag people like that but nevertheless here I am having Type 2 and still cant quite believe it.

My adventure started when I got the flu and went to the doctor for my annual check up and blood work came back. Since diagnosis, I have been diligently reading everything I can including much of Mendosa's web site and some of the books he recommends. After all that I am still rather confused about what bg ranges I should be looking at as my Doctor never really told me any ranges. Just to moniter it! Okay.,I am monitering it and am still not quite sure if I should compare my ranges to the norm or folks with type 2.  I am lucky as we cought it early as my A1c is 6.33 which still seems agruably with in normal limits... or so Ive read. Ive basically taken some information Ive read and have started a sensable low carb diet having lost some 20  pounds in the last few months. The diabetic education classes really didnt help much and surprisingly the nutritionist really never talked about sugar content of foods...only carbs and serving sizes! Surprisingly to me, there are as many varied opinions from what optiomal levels are from weight to BG levels. Finally I am wondering if I really should seek consultation with an endochronologist with a A1c of 6.33? It seems like the more I read the more varied opionions there are. It makes for a more confusing time to decide on a sensable way to manage my type 2!
