Dreaming About Water, seeking submissions

By amy mercer Thursday, November 08, 2007

I am seeking personal essay submissions from women writers for her upcoming collection, Dreaming About Water, a collection of personal essays and practical advice by and for women living with diabetes. This anthology will share essays from a diverse community of women living with this chronic disease. We will reveal the frustration, sadness, shame, alienation, self-discovery and opportunity for growth that accompany this illness. This collection of essays will offer practical advice, insight and references for the optimal management of diabetes.

Essays should fall between 1,500 and 3,000 words and explore an aspect of living with diabetes.

The collection will cover any and all aspects of living with diabetes: from diagnosis to aging gracefully. Other possible essay topics may include: Maneuvering Adolescence, Dating, Finding the Right Doctor, Leaving Home, Relationships with Food, Exercise, Managing the Workplace, Wedding Plans and Marriage, Starting a Family- Fertility issues, Pregnancy, and/or Adoption, Gestational Diabetes, Motherhood, Dealing with Complications, Aging Gracefully and Type 2 Diabetes.

Our goal is to provide diabetic women- type 1 and type 2- with a place of community while they navigate the various stages of their lives, and their diabetes.

Contributing writers include: Amy S. Mercer, Violeta Garcia-Mendoza, Andie Dominick (Needles), Kerri Morrone (Six Until Me), Kassie Gregorio-Palmer (When You're a Parent with Diabetes), Amy Tendrich (Diabetes Mine), Marilyn Bates, Julia Jackson, Missy Foy (ultramarathoner), Dr. Sheri Colberg (The Diabetic Athlete) and Lisa Roney (Sweet, Invisible Body).
