Diabetes is a Disease not a Contest.

Some people I know are competitive about their Diabetes - I mean they try to compete to see who takes the most medication and have had more health problems associated with the disease.  I don't understand this at all.  I just want to scream at these people and say, "Hey stupid, you don't have to have any of these symptoms if you care enough about yourself to do something positive for yourself."  They talk about all the things they don't do, and I think, "if you would spend as much time doing the things that are positive instead of telling everyone about the things you choose not to do so that you will become more ill, you wouldn't be as ill."   I think some people thrive on their illnesses more so than being healthy.  What's up with that?

I get so upset with people who don't at least try.  I have other health problems besides diabetes:  Lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, manic depression/bi-polar disorder, and Parkinson's Disease.  I have found that managing diabetes helps to manage everything else.  By healthy eating, drinking plenty of water, and exercising, you can help your entire body cope with anything.  I feel very blessed to have had extensive diabetes education training, and support of others who feel the same as I do about using nutrition and exercise to help all aspects of my physical self.

I am a firm believer that attitude is everything, and if you think like an old, sick person, you will become an old, sick, person.  If you think and act like a young, vibrant healthy person, you will feel younger, more vibrant, and healthier.

It's time to round up all these "woe is me" people and let them know that they are making themselves invalids.  And the word invalid means not valid, not needed, not necessary.  I want to be validated, everyday, and most often I am the only one who can validate myself.  I want out of the loop when it comes to comparing diseases.  I am a person who has some health issues that I am controlling.  I will never, ever, ever, let them control me.  As far as I'm concerned Diabetes lost it's contest with me.
