A Diabetes Christmas Carol

  • Since having diabetes can be a big pain in the neck anytime, but particularly around the holidays, I thought it might be humorous to go on the offensive and add a "D" twist to an age old Christmas carol.

    And that's how we - my son, husband and me - came up with the following parody of The Twelve Days of Christmas. (It might be more fun if you hum the tune while you read this):

    On the first day of Christmas, my endo gave to me
    A bottle of glucose tablets.

    On the second day of Christmas, my endo gave to me
    Two infusion sets and a bottle of glucose tablets.

    On the third day of Christmas, my endo gave to me

    Four vials of Humalog®, three Lantus® pens, two infusion sets and a bottle of glucose tablets.

    On the seventh day of Christmas, my endo gave to me
    Seven CDEs a-singing
    Six syringes a-shooting
    Five test strips
    Four vials of Humalog®, three Lantus® pens, two infusion sets and a bottle of glucose tablets.

    On the eight day of Christmas, my endo gave to me
    Eight monitors a-monitoring
    Seven CDEs a-singing, six syringes a-shooting
    Five test strips
    Four vials of Humalog®, three Lantus® pens, two infusion sets and a bottle of glucose tablets.

    On the ninth day of Christmas, my endo gave to me
    Nine numbers crashing

    On the eleventh day of Christmas, my endo gave to me
    Eleven pumps a-pumping
    Ten lancets lancing, nine numbers crashing, eight monitors a-monitoring, seven CDEs a- singing, six syringes a-shooting,
    Five test strips,
    Four vials of Humalog®, three Lantus® pens, two infusion sets and a bottle of glucose tablets.

    On the twelfth day of Christmas, my endo gave to me
    Twelve dreams of a cure
    Eleven pumps a-pumping, ten lancets a-lancing, nine numbers crashing, eight monitors a-monitoring, seven CDEs a-singing, six syringes a-shooting,
    Five test strips,
    Four vials of Humalog®, three Lantus® pens, two infusion sets and a bottle of glucose tablets.
