Since having diabetes can be a big pain in the neck anytime, but particularly around the holidays, I thought it might be humorous to go on the offensive and add a "D" twist to an age old Christmas carol.
And that's how we - my son, husband and me - came up with the following parody of The Twelve Days of Christmas. (It might be more fun if you hum the tune while you read this):
On the first day of Christmas, my endo gave to me
A bottle of glucose tablets.
On the second day of Christmas, my endo gave to me
Two infusion sets and a bottle of glucose tablets.
On the third day of Christmas, my endo gave to me
Three Lantus® pens, two infusion sets and a bottle of glucose tablets.
On the fourth day of Christmas, my endo gave to me
Four vials of Humalog®, three Lantus® pens, two infusion sets and a bottle of glucose tablets.
On the fifth day of Christmasas, my endo gave to me
Five test strips
Four vials of Humalog®, three Lantus® pens, two infusion sets and a bottle of glucose tablets.
On the sixth day of Christmas, my endo gave to me
Six syringes a-shooting

On the seventh day of Christmas, my endo gave to me
Seven CDEs a-singing

On the tenth day of Christmas, my endo gave to me

Ten lancets lancing, nine numbers crashing, eight monitors a-monitoring, seven CDEs a- singing, six syringes a-shooting,
Five test strips,
Four vials of Humalog®, three Lantus® pens, two infusion sets and a bottle of glucose tablets.
On the twelfth day of Christmas, my endo gave to me
Twelve dreams of a cure
Eleven pumps a-pumping, ten lancets a-lancing, nine numbers crashing, eight monitors a-monitoring, seven CDEs a-singing, six syringes a-shooting,
Five test strips,
Four vials of Humalog®, three Lantus® pens, two infusion sets and a bottle of glucose tablets.
