Minimed CGM: Does It Affect Your Sleep?
I love my Minimed CGM and it is really helping me and my diabetes team figure out what is going on in my body during stress and exactly how food is affecting me.
The trends are crazy cool. I can't believe at any point after I eat something I can just look at my pump and see the line on the graph literally start moving up or down as soon as insulin kicks in. Is it dropping hmm let me look on my handy dandy CGM chart? Is my blood sugar raising? Poof the number is right there. Amazing. It has helped me so much already. I love love love the data! I just went for a blood test on Saturday morning and I am really curious to see if my A1c dropped from the last one which was 7.4.
I just want to point out one thing about the CGM though, if you value your sleep, Buyer beware. The beeping can honestly drive you crazy. I had to take it off one weekend myself because me and my husband needed a "beeping" break. It is back on now.
Just so you know, the beeping will not stop all night long. It wakes you and anyone around you out of a dead sleep. I hear beeps in my dreams at this point. hahah. I am used to it now. It doesn't bother me as much as it did in the begining. I like that I can correct a high in the middle of the night if I have to. I also noticed a nice middle of the night pattern because of it. My team helped me fix my basal in the night. Which I am very grateful for. Now my morning blood sugars are exceptionally better. The beeps on the other hand we need to do something about that ha ha.
I just wanted to just point that out, in case you are seriously considering a CGM. You do have to be prepared for waking up in the middle of the night A LOT in the beginning. It can be a bit much.
At this point my night time blood sugars are much better, and I will only really get the beeping if my blood sugars are dropping. My blood sugars are not going up in the night anymore since my basals got changed.
I hope this helps.
