The First Sign of Diabetes Complications: Leakage in Your Eye

By Gina Capone, Health Guide Thursday, January 22, 2009
This past Saturday I went to the eye doctor with my husband. He had made the appointment a long time ago and asked if I wanted to go with him so I said sure. I have not been to the eye doc in about two years. (Yes, shame on me)   It was not my regular doctor but, I never had problems before so...

Goodness, he sounds like a real creep.  A leak is scary, and he did nothing to sooth you!!  Yes, go see your "real" eye doctor - and try not to worry.  After 29 years, my eye doc found my first leak about a year ago.  After six months, it cleared up but there was a leak in the other eye.  She said as long as they don't change and there are no more, we don't need to worry.  We just need to keep a close watch on them.  I'm sure your doc will say the same.  Fingers crossed that it just clears up soon!!

Gina,

Thank you for your post.  As a diabetic for 33 years i always put off my eye exams "Like you", Ha Ha.  Well I was worried about my right eye because it was really red for a week and I had this raised white, like calcium looking bump.

Well every thing was "OK", but I would not have put up with a doctors action as such.

I have been through allot of endo's because of there lack of patient interaction and for that mater,  lack of clearly explaining any outcome.

Why would that be a "horror" of an eye appointment. He obviously meant to read the pamphlet AFTER your eyes return to normal. Are you kidding me? If he found something he's a great doctor. The first doctor I went to FAILED to tell me I had a leakage - even when I told him I saw this huge spot in front of my left eye. 6 months later, I went to another eye doctor who said I HAD a leakage. By the way, I had only had Type 2 for 3 years at that point. Be grateful your doctor found something. Just because you don't like the news, does not mean your doctor is bad.
