My CGM Tape Issues

Well everyone, I am hooked back up to my CGM, and with brand new tape! I decided to use the Tegaderm HP tape that came in the package that Minimed sent me yesterday. I used the Skin Prep and the IV prep hoping that the tape would stick.   This is what it looks like now:     ISN'...

Keep trying until you find something that works for you.  I remember long ago fighting with my infusion sets like this (especially when playing ball).  You'll find something that works and all will be well.

I've found that using sites other than my abdomen really help with the tape staying put. I think all of the bending and movement around my waist was a problem and I've had much better luck using my thighs. I've also resigned myself to changing the tape/dressing every day or more often if need be especially since I find they tend to fill up with water after I shower, then slowly leak out.

From non-personal experience, I was recently at a conference where one of the docs in the audience asked for advice on how to get CGMs to stick on some of his patients who surf alot. The panelists suggested talking to nurses and physicians in gastro who help folks who've had colostomies since they know the best tricks for getting things to adhere and stay put.

For dealing with the hormonal bump in blood sugars, I've had some luck setting up a new, higher basal pattern that I use the week or so before my period starts.

This is a problem when I shower or when I perspire a lot. Try the old standby of painting the area around the sensor with a tincture of benzoin swab before putting the Tegaderm on.  Make sure the area is dry before you put the patch on.  You might also try a larger size Tegaderm patch or use 2 side by side with a slight overlap to cover a larger area.  Like everything else, if all else fails, change the patch when it starts to come off.
