Who will marry me after knowing that I'm diabetic?

I was always under this impression that diabetes is no big deal if it is well under control until one fine day I decided to get married. The harsh reality  dawned upon me when many guys rejected me simply on the ground that I'm juvenile diabetic. This is quite ridiculous and discouraging! After a lot of thinking I'd made up my mind and now that I'm really prepared, nobody'd accept me.Does it mean that diabetics don't get married, may be in India where we've a system of arranged marriages, they  don't?Should I then give up this idea of getting married? or is there any suitable guy made for me too?

Hi Ruchika,

I think that guy who turned you down because he found you're diabetic is a rare specimen. He probably didn't really even understand what diabetes was in order to be scared off by it. Sounds like he's got a bad case of "ignorance," actually. I've never encountered anything by intrigue and awe when I explain my diabetes to guys. When you're dealing with the average person who knows just a bit about the disease, they know it's something to be impressed by! You take shots every day--probably much tougher than that guy was.

And my goodness, you are gorgeous! Look at that photo!

Diabetes is NOT going to keep you from falling in love, dating, getting married--I promise. When you meet someone of character and intelligence, they'll see it as an aspect of what makes you a clearly very strong person!

Any guy worth marrying will see this in you.

Hi Ginger

Thanks for such a beautiful reply!I know people in America don't take diabetes as something preventing a diabetic from dating or for that matter leading a normal life like others coz' I have been to your country many times as both my sisters are settled in America but unfortunately in India it's not the same especially when it comes to getting married.I've posted my profile on all major Indian matrimonial sites and to my surprise a majority of replies are decline messages and that's so disgusting at times!I know nobody would even date me here once he comes to know that I'm juvenile diabetic and if by any chance he does, his family wouldn't let him!Anyways I'm not giving up coz' now that I've finally decided to get married,I'm gonna keep on trying for how long, well even I don't know!

Hi Ruchika,

My goodness, I'm at a loss.  You're right, in America diabetes doesn't seem to matter at all when it comes to dating, falling in love, and getting married.  If anything, I think having diabetes helps weed out the insenstitive men we wouldn't want to be married to anyway!  Perhaps that's true in India too.  If someone thinks your disease is too much of a burden for them, they'd probably make a terrible, uncompassionate spouse!

I'm sure you will find a man who loves you for you, with diabetes and all! Maybe that's the way to think about it: this disease is part of you, and the person who loves you should love all of you!

Plus, if you decide to have children, having a supportive spouse will be crucial, as you deal with the stress of a diabetic pregnancy.

Let us know if we can provide further guidance... it sure sounds like you've gotten it figured out!

Good luck!

Hi Kelsley

Thanks for your concern.Surprisingly It's Americans like you,so kind and nice who are sending responses.Well unfortunately it's the hardest job finding an Indian guy for marriage coz'of the misconceptions that Indians have about diabetes and also because of family pressure,Indian guys don't dare to have their way!I'm saying this coz'I've posted my profile on all major Indian matrimony sites and i'm receiving replies only of decline.I'm just waiting for the right guy, don't know if it's my diabetes that's bothering them or my age!!!

this is the issue with which i was just going down ,as u think that a normal guy will refuse to marry u after knowing that u r a diabetic.i also think the same here that a normal girl will refuse to marry me ,that is why i have decided that i will marry a diabetic girl only so that both of us can lead a good life ,

and  u r so good looking that a diabetic guy cant refuse to marry u .

if u still are unmarried then i m ready to approach u as i m also a diabetic and looking for a diabetic girl to marry.

                         regards
