I am both a Type II diabetic and a heart patient. I have had a Aortic Value replacement. I take Metoprolol Succinate (25mg) and Diovan (160 mg). I am facing a situation with higher blood pressure about 154 and currently no diuretic.
I am about to begin Byetta in addition to glipizide (15 mg/day) and Metformin (1500 mg/day) for my diabetes.
Does anyone have experience with Byetta good or bad and especially with anything like these heart medications?

Hi kwsmithma,
David Mendosa is a resident expert here on Health Central and he wrote an article last June citing some research that suggests Byetta is good for heart patients. You can read the entire article here, but a short excerpt is below.
"But there's more. Taking Byetta can reduce our risk of heart attacks and strokes, the most common and deadly complications of diabetes.
It<byetta> does this indirectly by reducing high blood pressure and improving cholesterol levels. This was the main conclusion of a poster, Abstract 557-P, presented at the American Diabetes Association's scientific sessions just concluded in Chicago."
You can also read up on Byetta here in the drugs database.
While online information should never take the place of your doctor's sound advice, this sounds like good news! Only you and your doctor know what is best when it comes to your health care.
Good luck and stay in touch! Let us know how you are doing!

Hi Kwsmithma,
How did your doctor appointment go on wednesday? Let me know how you are doing on the Byetta. I have been on 10mg for the past two weeks (after a month of 5mg) and things seem to be working out ok for me.
Take care and stay in touch!
