30 Second Jean Smart Public Video Service Announcement Advocating Diabetes Awareness

By ESKCSG Tuesday, February 10, 2009

Diabetes is a leading health concern in this nation, with nearly 24 million people in the United States living with the disease. Unfortunately, many of them do not even know it.

Award-winning actress Jean Smart has been named ambassador for the newest public service initiative for the Entertainment Industry Foundation's Diabetes Aware. Launched five years ago, Diabetes Aware is a national educational campaign that informs Americans about the importance of early detection, monitoring and proper management of this progressive disease.

When are people going to start making the distinction between Type 1 and Type 2? "May be able to prevent it" is only applicable to Type 2! I am so tired of the lack of education in this country regarding Type 1s. My 7 year old son is a Type 1, and people CONSTANTLY ask me if he'll grow out of it. He will be dependent on insulin shots for the rest of his life unless a cure is found. I would have wished this PSA would have done more to educate people on the difference.
