I've heard at least one endo doc (mine) report that metformin in it's extended release form taken once a day, works better than the same dosage of metformin taken throughout the day...
In one case (mine), very low carb dieting and regular exercise appears to work well enough to be able to stop taking either metform or metform er. So far, so good. Your milage may vary...
I have read nearly everything you and David Mendosa have written -- all the books, most of the articles.
I have successfully kept diabetes at bay for 6.5 years. Now, my fasting b.g. has crept to the 120's and 130's in the last few months. God forbid I should eat a sweet potato as part of dinner, the next morning I could be as high as 140.
I thought a low-carb diet and a LOT of exercise were the answers. Some people do well without medication. Is medication inevitable? Given the serious side effects and recall of some diabetic drugs, I have been reluctant, but am asking every expert I know the question: If you were me, would you take Glucophage? (I read the time release is better than the generic?)
Thanks for all you write.
Thanks so much.

Too bad the benefits of metformin don't totally exclude the actual chance of cancer... then I wouldn't have had to deal with mine...
Well, nothing is 100%. Except the probability that your cancer won't come back. I hope.
That would be nice... but it still hasn't left from the first time...
