  • I love yogurt, and I eat a lot of it. Well, actually I eat mostly kefir, which I make myself. But they're similar.   I'm on a low-carb diet, so of course I don't eat the commercially flavored high-sugar yogurts on the market. I often mix strawberries (thawed in microwave if they're frozen) with ...

That's a good way to look at it, Gretchen. But sometimes things take a turn toward the complicated: I've been eating better/lower carb since I was diagnosed, and now I'm having trouble with kidney stones. I jut had to have a few surgeries for them, and my new hobby is Doing Whatever It Takes To Never Have Another Kidney Stone (the pain, the multiple surgery hassle (stent insertion, two week then stone removal, then two weeks for stent removal), the cost of all that (it's great that I can have relatively good health insurance and still cry from hospital bills). And animal protein of some types, or even all types, appears in an awful lot of Things To Not Eat for those of us with uric acid stones. It's depressing. But I'm doing two other things so I maybe don't have to drop all animal proteins: drinking a lot more water (the goal is 2 liters of output (urine) a day), and taking potassium citrate supplements. I don't know if I could make it as a low-carb vegetarian, so I'm hoping I can find the threshold for all factors that will allow me dietary diversity. Thanks for this and all your other articles.
