Its great that new approaches to cure diabetes inlcuding type 1 is being pursued. The men is going to the moon and have done digital wonders - but why this ancient disease is yet a bugging problem for us? Millions of people in type 1 diabetes are going through a patch patch in their life taking insulin everyday- specially the children and youths who have dreams to be fulfilled but are baffled by this disease. Please do get our acts together and make a breakthrough - this will be another addition to human ingenuity and will to defeat this disease as we have done for small pox that destroyed communities after communities in a flush. The problem with diabetes is that metabolism and the immune system are so complex. They will find a cure, but it probably won't be in the near future.
Scientists have the same problem with some viral diseases like AIDS. Some pathogens are able to mutate so fast that when you get a vaccine against them, they've mutated into something different. With AIDS, the virus infects the immune cells that are usually used to fight infections.
The complexity of building rockets is probably less than the complexity of the human body. And you can build a rocket and try it out, and if it doesn't work, you haven't lost anything but money. If you have more money, you just try again. You can't experiment on human beings that way.
If we would just stop having wars and devoted that money to medical research, we'd cure diabetes a lot faster.

I do fully agree with you that if the money, instead of funding wars and violence, could have been used for undertaking research to cure the diseases like AIDs, type 1 diabetes and for curing other illness, the results could have been achieved much faster. I want to add that we need to put human ingenuity into making our life beautiful and to bring in peace and not for fighting wars and creating barriers which may emanate from faith or any other considerations. Knowing all these, I simply hope that the cure is found faster and if the need be, right today.
