I am a new diabetic of 4 months.  I was in the habbit of 'grazing' between meals.  At my age, how can I stop this?  I am 57!Does anyone else have this problem or can help?

    Hi Extra Sweet,

It can be difficult to break old habits at any age. The good news is that eating throughout the day, in a calorie controlled manner, can help manage your blood sugar levels.

Instead of mindlessly grazing, consider planning out 6 meals a day. Eating smaller meals more frequently can help keep your blood sugar level on a more even keel. This will enable you to eat regularly throughout the day so you don't have to make the break from grazing to eating just 3 times a day.

Try to plan your 6 meals a head of time so that you don't find yourself making impulsive choices that might not fit within your diabetic diet.

    Good luck!

    Heather,

Well, Payday is next Thursday so the meals are meager at best.  We have downsized our utilities and made arrangements to pay my hospital bill [I was critical and almost died 2 months ago, utilities, and the one other bill in payments.  We want to start going to the food bank tomorrow. Stress grows! I count Carbs.

    11P BS 93

Restraunt-open faced hamburger with salad no drsg.

Noon today 116 BS 30U Lantus

1P  V-8 juice [allergy to tomatoes]

4P  can of green beans/can of

black olives/mashed potatoes 1/2 cup and water-forgot BS

I just found a frozen pork chop, X2 TV dinner with 60 carbs!, blue berries, chocolate bar and bread!

Cans goods before Dx-are tomato soup, Crm mushroom, baked beans and spaghetti and sauce!

Homemade lemonade w/ splenda at will/or cold water.

corn on the cob/pork chop with lemonade.

Maybe I'll have a 1/2 PB Sandwich at MN!  How do I plan? Stuck between a rock and a hard place with no where to go.  However, I will make it, I always do! We just tighten up the purse strings is all!

We are blessed to rarely get this low, praise God!

    Heather,

I never heard of planning a meal?  Mom used to do that in the '50'S!

I have no Ideas how to plan honestly!  Now, I just open the freezer or icebox when I get hungry or graze!  No one ever mentioned this to me!  This gets more over whelming every day!

Our schedule is Noon-3A!  Has been for eons! When I am first up since 35 years ago, I am unable to eat a 'breakfast' because I literally hurl my cookies!  Sometimes Milk but if I gag I quit!  Obvious reasons!  I usually wait to a safer time, about 1 1/2 -2 hours later...

But planning?  That is foreign to me!  I will TRY anything once, twice as I like it!

As it has stood honey, I eat 2-4PM,

12-2A with grazing inbetween!  My only 2 BS in 3 months was 68 and 52 that were Hypo!  Basically normal but I am creaping up to 120-130 occ.  I always eat alone now when my husband is at work or at a restraunt which is the only place I will eat a salad.

Not bad for no informaltion!  I am a brand new baby since what, September!  My A1C is 6.1 and my doctor is proud of me!

6 meals a day and Planning!  How do I do it, I'll try!

    Extra Sweet
