Hi! I am a type 1 diabetic for over 30 years now. My endocrinolgist has scheduled me for an insulin pump. My husband and I will be attending a pump retreat the middle of October.
I am both nervous and excited at the same time. I have been taking shots for so long now, that it is nothing to me.
Can someone please tell me what I can expect with the pump? I already am counting carbs and keeping a food diary and tracking my bloodsugars. Please just tell me more about the pump and things I will need to do.
Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Hi there. You are going to love it!!!!! I have been on it for three years now. The bolus wizard (which you will learn) is marvelous. The pump thinks for you and if you can carb count, then you are the perfect candidtate. What I love is that you can lower your basal rate (background insulin) unlike when you are on shots if you want to exercise or are doing more physical activity throughout the day so you do not go low. If i am 160-200 two hrs after meal, before the next meal, I am within the range. I was waking up too high, so the dr recommended the pump which has brought the sugars down under 200. My a1c's are low sevens and I want to get them below 7 but it is not happening fast enough and I am trying to get pregnant now. Do you have any kids?? Let me know how it works out.
Hi! Yes, I have two boys, ages 9 and 14. They are my miracles, as I always thought that I could never have children. It was hard, but I did it and I am so happy. They are a blessing. Both were born three weeks early by c-section, as I developed pre-eclampsia. But, I wouldn't change it for anything. You can do it! Good luck to you!
