SURE-T INFUSION SET
pump gal 1956
Sunday, November 23, 2008 at 12:12 PMHi Kelsey,
I am Sue, or pump gal 1956 (the year I graduated from high school)...yes, I am going to be 70 in Jan. I have had type 1 and 1/2 diabetes for 10 years...I have always let diabetes control me over the years, but I am becoming much better...I am more in control of it now, I hope. It is so hard! I work part-time in a liquor store from 9 to 1p. I have been reprimanded for going to the bathroom too often, but they don't understand that if your blood sugars are high, then you "pee" more often. But I have tried not to drink too much water at work....sometimes that helps. And of course, I have never had the greatest bladder anyway..and now it is an older bladder"
I test very often (mostly at work just to be sure I don't go to low and have a reaction..which I have had in the past). The other day, I had my 3-month appt. with my diabetic educator...we talked about variables, etc. She did suggest that I not test 2 hrs. post dinner...just at bedtime.
I did forget to tell you that since April of '07 I have been on the pump (Medtronic Paradigm 515) and love it.
I have been using the Paradigm Quick-Set until about a month ago....my endocronologist suggested the Sure-T infusion set. I had been having ocassional problems with clogging, crimping, etc. Also, after having 3 kids, I have loads of stretch marks. I am a thin diabetic, so weight is not a problem. They don't suggest the Sure-T for heavier people.
It is just a needle that you put in like a thumb tack...and I can place it even in the stretch marks...it doesn't go as far in as the Quick-set...no clogging, etc.
I think you might want to try the Sure-T...It is so much easier changing sites!
It is wonderful to read your stories....it makes me feel that I am not alone with this stressful 24-7 disease!!!
I stress out about the highs..but my DE said I really shouldn't...they are part of having diabetes. She said my type (1 and 1/2) is harder to control. The most important thing as you know, is to try and prevent the lows!!!!
Well, enough of my rambling! Your daughter sounds just beautiful...enjoy her! My first child was a girl..now 45 with an almost 5 year old son... my middle is a 43 year old daughter with a 9 year old daughter and 11 year old son, and my "baby" is 40..not married yet, with a 5 year old mutt!
Enjoy your Thanksgiving with your family!!!! And keep writing your articles..they are so encouraging and helpful! AND STAY HEALTHY!!! SUE

The list of variables seems endless sometimes. What also strikes me is the amount of time it can take to work through the variables. You know, like you make one change and you have to wait and see if it fixed the problem or not!
