Hi Kelsey, Let me start off by saying you are an amazing women. I am really inspired by your knowledge, dedication, and motivation in life, but especially to have a healthy pregnancy. I just got off birth control about three weeks ago and and hoping to get pregnant soon. I have had diabetes for 11 years now and have been on the pump for past three years. My A1cs are in the low sevens and I am just hoping to finally be below 7 before conception. Any suggestions regarding control or diabetes and pregnancy are greatly appreciated :-) Hope to hear from you soon and please keep me posted during your amazing journey to the miracle of life.
Thanks for your comment and kind thoughts!
Have you been struggling to get your A1C under 7%? I don't want to seem unsupportive, but are you working with a diabetes in pregnancy specialist? They can really help you achieve the control you need during pregnancy. Everything I've come across advocates an A1C under 6.5% or even 6% prior to conception and during pregnancy. You'll be amazed at the control you can have with your baby as motivation!
Please feel free to send me a message if I can be of any additional help!
Good luck!!
hi not to change the subject,, im new on this veryy interesting web site,, our son is on lantus 1 time a day and takes humalog for meals and snacks,, his blood sugars are all over the place,, i wonder if this is due to his age he is 15,,, he doesnt want a pump so we live with the highs n lows that are sometime quite mind boggling,,, there rae so many good things i am learning here,, thanks
Remember how when you first started using a pump, and it didn't work like you expected all the time? The CGM system will be the same. I've used the Dexcom system off and on for a couple of years, and have two pieces of advice: I insert a new sensor before going to bed and then start the session first thing thing the next morning, because it takes longer than the recommended two hour "settling in" slot they recommend for a new sensor to get used to my body. And because the sensor is in subcutaneous tissue and not measuring actual blood glucose, it may take longer than the fifteen minutes you expect before you see the results of any low BG treatment to "show up" on the monitor. Despite my better judgment I was tending to overtreat because I couldn't see that the treatment was actually working. (For me, 4 oz of OJ doesn't show up on the monitor for 30-40 minutes.)
Be patient. The charts and reports you can download and print are very cool. You will learn a lot, especially about how different foods affect your blood sugar, even if you think you already know!

Thanks Beth! That's great advice... I don't come by patience naturally, so I'll try to remember your wise words!
