I am a 38 year old woman. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes about 12 years ago. I have never had a A1C result that was lower than 8 and most of the time hovers around 10. I have been taking insulin for the last 9 years and this last year I was put on the insulin pump. I have been very frustrated with the pump. For one I have gained roughly 20 lbs since I have been on it. I eat better than I ever had. I eat no potatoes, no white sugar, no pasta and very rarely do I eat rice. I don't eat white sugar and exercise 6 days a week anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. My blood sugars seemed to be doing pretty well within normal limits for about 2 months but I am in the 200 to 300 range again. I have no energy, feel depressed and discouraged. I have recently gone back to my old insulin regimen pre-pump, and I am trying to see how it goes. I would love to be able to e-mail someone that shares some of the same frustrations that I do. I am still a relatively young woman and I feel like an old woman already.
Hi Helena,
There is another user on here who has been experiencing similar issues with the pump. Her most recent post is here I will also look around to see if I can find more information. Also have you had all the tests (heart, lung, etc) I know when I was first diagnosed, I had to go through heart stress tests to make sure there was no damage from the diabetes. They also use those tests as a mean for future testing to check for changes.
Stay in touch and let us know how you are doing!!
