Personal Weight Issues

I have had some personal issues with my weight. The last doctor's visit I had, which was on April 11, 2008, my weight had dropped from 145 lbs to 136 lbs. Understand that I am around 5'10" tall and the average weight for someone at that height is 150 lbs. I have no idea why I have lost the weight only that I have been eating small meals all day instead of three meals which is supposed to be better than three large meals a day. There are times...

Sharps containers and public places specially Universities and Colleges

I have been wondering this every since I started college again. I've noticed that public places, not like grocery stores or little stores with no public restrooms, but more like universities do not offer sharps containers for their diabetic students. I attend the University of Phoenix-Salt Lake City division in Taylorsville UT. There is two campuses that I have been for the UOP's campuses, one is the main campus located in Murray UT but...

How I felt when I was first diagnosed?

When I was first diagnosed it not only scared me but it also made me wonder how people were going to treat me. I was sixteen years old and in my junior year of high school. It was in October of 2000, the week of homecoming and I had been having some symptoms for over a week. My mom decided that I needed to get into the doctor's office and quick. I went to my primary care physician and talk to him about what was going on. When they tested my...

Diabetes and Infections

It seems like the older that I get the more easily I get infections, the most recent infection is a kidney infection. Though its possibly kidney stones. They cant find anything wrong that would be causing the pain that acts like kidney infection or kidney stones though I was told that the kidney stones could be so small that they arent traceable with a CT scan. They also did an ultrasound to see if there were cysts on my ovaries that were...

Weight Loss Fad

I used to try to lose weight by not taking my insulin, but learned the hard way that it can cause a lot of
complications including DKA. I have two eposides of DKA in which I was
place in either ICU or CCU. The first eposide, about 8 months after my
diagnosis, I came down with the flu and we werent sure how to treat it.
I ended up in CCU for 24 hours and basically comatose. The second time
which happened this past April 2007 was...

Diabetes and Bipolar

I was diagnosed November 2006 with bipolar. I'm looking for medications that are not going affect my diabetes at all. They have tried me on Depakene and Geodon. I just recently read an article about the warning with Geodon causing Hyperglycemia. I seem to very susceptible to hyperglycemia and have had two eposides of DKA both of which I was in ICU/CCU for at least 12 hours. The first was 24 hours and I was also in a slight coma then as well....

Work and Diabetes

I'm currently working as a technical support agent for Dell computers. Its not a high stress job but I'm currently having problems keeping my diabetes regulated because of the hours that I work. I work from 3pm to 11:30pm. This makes it hard for me to eat properly because you never know when you're going to get a break. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice to share with me about better ways to control my diabetes....
