Confused

By PeggyG57 Sunday, November 11, 2007

I am currently taking Byetta twice a day but have very uncomfortable side effects such as nausea and vomiting.  SHould I continue on this regiment or should I stop and go on insulin?  I'm not sure of the differences?

If you're going that low after Byetta, I think you need to contact your doctor right away and see about adjusting doses of either Byetta (are you on 5 or 10?) or your other medications.

Are you taking other medications? No one can offer you advice without knowing your complete medical situation. This is why talking to your doctor would be best.

Gretchen,

Thanks for writing back so soon.  I'm on 10mg of Byetta and the doctor has taken me off Glyburide.  I still seem to have very low levels after I take it.(within an hour).  I'm seeing an endo doc tomorrow and hope for some answers.

David Mendosa has a blog about Byetta. It's been good for him. You can read about his experience here. I began reading Dave Mendosa's articles several years ago when I stumbled upon his glycemic index list of foods. Some surprising information listed. You can read that here.

In my own experience Byetta is supposed to be taken no more than 20 minutes prior to eating a full meal. Supposedly the meal will give the Byetta a good basis for working. Since Byetta is supposed to slow the digestive muscles in the stomach, you should feel full longer, but it should also help you by leveling out the sugar highs and lows. Are you eating when you take the Byetta?

Please stay in touch and let us know how you are doing!
