My former endo was too laid back and accepting. It was nice, sometimes, like when he got me a pump and a CGM without question, but it was NOT nice when he saw my lab report with a 302 FBG, A1c of 10.7 (extremely high for ME) and liver enzymes in the 100's (should be <40) and sent me home so I could go into a coma 6 days later. There are times when you should trust the patient (or student) to do what needs to be done, and other times when you need to realize they are in trouble, and you need to step in. Wisdom is knowing the difference.
