Pediatric Diabetes Care and Internet-Based Patient Portals

By Dr. Fran Cogen, Health Pro Tuesday, May 10, 2011

I think a lot of the problem is the patients/parents may not know how to use the programs and/or cannot afford the programs or cables.  I know in my experience, I have 2 diabetics; both using different systems.  I have been uploading one child's meter to a program that sends it to you at childrens.  However, I had to get a desktop (luckily found a used one for cheap) and my sister had to hook it up to an odd port for me.  I now find it very easy to send the information every few weeks, and I'm loving that I have that option.  My other child cannot use the same program, and I can't even figure out how to put the information on my computer let alone send it to you regularly.

I think the diabetes world needs to come up with a program that will allow all meters, pumps, handhelds to upload information to their diabetes team AND show the patients/parents how to use it.

Thanks for all your posts by the way;  I love reading them and being able to understand(for the most part) things I would not have a clue about otherwise.
