There was a documentary called the Accidental Advocate, that talked with researcher in this country about the stem cell debate and why they had not pulled up their stakes and moved their labs overseas. The answer was the FDA. The researchers and doctors all said that the protocols put in place for research are the safest by far.
This Diabecell makes me a little nervous, but many type1 are putting a lot of hope on this. I for one pin my hopes to SmartInsulin and The Artificial Pancreas for now!

Monday, August 17, 2009 at 09:55 PMits mind boggling how many 'breakthroughs' there have been over the past 5 years, from countless universities, countless researchers and a dozen countries...Why cant all these people work together instead of throwing out 'breakthrough' propaganda every so often??.... and they all amount to nothing and basically 'dissapear' for lack of better words. Its almost like they get swepped under the carpet in favor of more profitable 'alternative treatments'. LCT is one of the few promising ones, but its discouraging when organizations like the JDRF always turn a blind eye to the most promising studies, in favour of mundane alternative treatments that inevitably keep them in business...

Sounds like this technique is a long way from being perfected, and the astronomical cost will be a hurdle to overcome before this becomes a viable alternative for diabetics. I hope we're heading in the right direction with this one. emclain
