the risk of a lifetime

the other concern, of course, is the difference between children and adults- any treatment will have a different effect on a developing body than on a mature one- and the longer lifetime exposure may have effects as well- unfortunately, this may be one of the confounding factors comparing type 1 and 2- the longer you have any disease, the more likely complications will arise

You are so right about this.. and it will take years to do prospective randomized studies to actually have valid conclusions.

These studies have felt unclear, at best! Unclear because when extracted in pieces, it reads like a drama: You are vulnerable to cancer! I had two people who saw a news clip and asked doesn't all insulin do this? You did an excellent job of laying out the issue and how the studies really read!
And I totally agree with Frank, above, that the ultimate truth is the longer we have the potential for complications are there! Thus the importance of what is written on this site!
Thanks DrC!

My pleasure, as always, Ann. I promise that the next few blogs will be on the "lighter" side!
