Live from the Avandia Review: 7:30 a.m.

This place is a zoo.

I've never seen anything like it: reporters stacked row after row with laptops, television cameras lined across the center of the room, satellite dishes as tall as me positioned outside. This is FDA hearing regarding the safety of popular diabetes drug Avandia, and judging by the hoopla in this Holiday Inn in Gaithersburg, Md., people have really been paying attention to all the recent controversy about the drug.

This review comes on the heels of a slew of anti-Avandia studies (read more from our diabetes experts David Mendosa and Dr. Bill Quick).

The room is just about filled to capacity -- I'd guess there are close to 200 journalists here -- and there's still 20 minutes left until the hearing. Stay tuned for the next update, live from Gaithersburg.
