Extreme Makeover: MyDiabetesCentral.com Edition

Hello all!

A few months ago I reached out to our experts about the design of MyDiabetesCentral.com. "What would you change?" I asked.

Here's a random smattering of their responses:

"It's too cluttered"

"It's hard to read"

"Need a better way to sort relevant shareposts"

They were right -- and so we acted. For the past few months we sat in rooms covered in white boards, scribbling our ideas for the change we wanted to achieve -- we wanted to bring richer, more relevant content to you, in the easiest way possible.

We're delighted to bring these changes to you today. They include:

  • Less clutter, with better links to more relevant articles
  • Easier to read layout and format (check out one of our sharepost pages, for example)
  • Better organized topic pages (I like this one)
  • A new system of organizing SharePosts by topic (you can now tag everything you write)
  • A new marketplace to find condition-relevant products
  • Clearer, easier to use navigation (we left behind the rails on all of our pages for one clean bar at the top of each page).
  • Ability to rate articles

Here's the best part: This is just phase one.

We're looking for your feedback (please comment on anything you like/dislike, or anywhere you see a chance for improvement) for our next round of redesigns.

So please, hang out for a while, see what's new, and let us know what you think!

Thanks everyone!

Krys:

The new layout is much better. Delighted that we don't have ads in the middle of the SharePosts, but on the side (although I don't know what the advertisers might think!).

Still could be a bit better -- for instance, your posting here (and one of mine that I checked) have bullet lists, and the bulleting doesn't line up vertically: the first one or two, depending on the webbrowser I use, is to the right vertically of the subsequent ones.

Looks like there might be a simple fix -- have your webpeople simply force the left-side pale green box that has your photo and recent posts continue downward to the very bottom rather than stopping and allowing text to flow below the box...

Best wishes!
