Yummy stuff

By pjkitties Thursday, February 14, 2008

It seems so easy to focus on what we shouldn't eat that it's hard to focus on the good stuff.  I for one just love Fannie May vanilla butter creams and know I shouldn't make a habit of eating them. Rather than telling myself I can't  eat these I will occasionally stop when passing by and buy just two of them. This is a very moderate "cheat" and keeps me from really blowing it because I feel deprived.

One other thing I really enjoy is fresh veggies. Raw green beans, celery hearts, raw cabbage, etc.  I stock up on these things that I love and much on them when I want a snack. Not only are these fresh and healthy, I get to eat something I really love. The best news of all - so far I have lost 14 pounds!  I now weigh less than I have in over 3 years!!

Wooooohooo! Congrats on your weight loss! Grin Make sure you keep us posted on your progress in the future!!

Are you on a low-carb diet? David Mendosa just wrote a good article on veggies here. I like this article from Gretchen on veggies from the garden, too...

Again, congrats!!!!

Hey PJ!!

Congrats on your weight loss!! Many people think that diabetics are obsessed with losing weight for vanity reasons, outward appearance, when in truth we need to lose weight (in many cases) to help control the diabetes, instead of it controlling us!!

I had a conversation with my doctor about sugar free snacks and treats versus just giving in to temptation for the normal stuff. He said, "did you ever read the label on a sugar free cookie or cake?" and I said no. I am horrible about not reading the label on much of anything. He said, "When they make a sugar free product, they have to add many things that are far worse for you than the sugar content just to make it palitable. Two of the most popular ingredients are Maltonin and fat. Plus, the serving size is impossible to follow, and people get into the mind set of, 'oh well it's sugar free, what will happen if I have 2 instead of 1,' and then gain incredible amounts of weight because sugar free is not fat or calorie free. It is better for you (and much cheaper) to have a bite of something regular (cake, have one cookie, some fruit, etc) than it is for you to get the sugar free stuff."

I have taken his advice to heart and cut out buying any of the sugar free things. Well with one exception. My boyfriend does get me Godiva sugar free candy bars for Valentine's Day. They are not Hershey's but they will do. I put them in the freezer and have a piece or two of one every so often. Makes them last longer.lol

Well that's enough from me. I hope you will stay in touch and let us know how you're doing!
