Doctors take things out of you and enjoy prescribing expensive meds that are in their interests. Doctors were beneficial to me when I had my Appendix removed and my lower back Disc repaired and they are very important in our life BUT they have little training in NUTRITION which is the advice we need as Type 2 Diabetics. Despite all kinds of meds my TRIGLYCERIDES have been abnormally high for years. My recent 4 year history shows marked improvements with counts as high as 900 down to 500 down to 425 down to 246 and as of today down to 166. My glucose count has followed the same down ward pattern currently at 6.4 on their averaging method. I am jumping for joy and soon will be jumping on the meds to crush and destroy them. I made a diet and lifestyle change. Not from anyone elses book but my own thoughts based on an old addage very true; "You are what you eat". It doesnt work for all conditions but is central if you are a Type 2 Diabetic. When your young you cant understand this until your older. This takes extraordinary discipline but diet/lifestyle works! I'm Type 2 with Hypertension and history of clogged arteries. My mother and her 5 brothers and sisters all died younger than expected from the same ailments. Only one sister lives to tell the tale. She is 95 and in perfect health mentally & physically. She was the only family member never to eat our own cultural foods but very early in life chose a vegetarian diet. Unless your Asian/Scandinavian and eat seaweed and fish all your life you run high risks of poor health because of your own cultural but very delicious choices. MY WEIGHT AND WHAT I ATE CAUSED MY PROBLEM AND THEN EXASERBATED IT. Secret; A very low or No Carb diet. That means a challenge greater than you may want to take on unless you want to live. NO breads ever, NO rice ever, NO pasta ever, NO potatoes ever, NO butter ever, NO fruit ever, Generally NOTHING bought in cans or boxes either at the grocery. That limits alot of choices for what we are use to. Breakfast; Coffee only. Lunch; Any types or combination of green salads with spray dressing with or without soups.
Dinner; Lean meats/fish with fresh veggies only with or without soups. Dessert; Sugar free Jello, Unsalted mixed nuts. Restaurants; The same discipline for picking the right choices and staying on the diet. Hydration; All the water or clear soda water without salt, sugar or additives. NO brand name diet sodas. MEDS WON'T CURE DIABETES. THEY WILL HELP YOU. DIET IS ON THE WAY TO CURING ME. Nothing is right for all of us at all times so always talk to your doctor first.....but this time with an open mind and alot of questions. With the way healthcare and insurance is going in our country you may not be able to afford a doctor to talk to in the future.
