  Hi all,

My name is Jody and I was diagnosed with Type 2 about 3 weeks ago.  I'm taking Metformin ER.  I'm having difficulty with the intestinal side effects...it's really helping my BG numbers though.  Any suggestions?  ThanksBi...

    Hi Jody,

I take metformin as well and if I take it at the same time everyday (morning and night) after a couple days I get on a pretty good schedule with the engineer who is responsible for my bodily functions Grin

However, if I miss a dose, it's almost like starting over at square one!

Make sure you follow your doctors instructions for taking the medication. If you should take it before eating, after eating, etc. Also make sure that you do eat! Part of the issue with diabetics is that sometimes we forget to eat, and when we do remember, we binge which can create the ups and downs and the ins and outs (if you get my drift!)

From what I have read on the site, metformin is to be taken with food. There is also a slow acting form of metformin called Glumetza that you might find helpful. You can read a bit about it here.

I hope this helps some! Let us know how you are doing and if you have found something that works for you!
