Tuesday, March 04, 2008 at 10:40 AMHi cc,
Mood swings and low blood sugars are common in diabetics. Depression is right there with the rest of the emotions.
There are several users who are dealing with both. You can read some of their experiences here. Usanaeternity asked if others were dealing with mood swings and irritability and many people responded. Also Gus was worried that if he didn't get his anger and frustration under control soon, he was going to lose his family. See what readers shared with him here.
I hope you find something in these links that you can use. If you are having a good day and want to share, we would love to hear from you! If you are having a challenging day and just want to vent, well we want to hear from you too!
Just remember to breathe and stay in touch to let us know how you are doing!

Tuesday, March 04, 2008 at 10:30 AMHi Jody!
You have come to a great place. Health Central is a wonderful resource for finding information, networking with others who are in the same situation as you and generally just reaching out and finding that you are not alone.
Depression is a common factor when any kind of condition or illness is present. It's one of the more worriesome issues in instinces of major surgery. There are many people here who are experiencing the same thing you are going through. I found these links to others that you can read and possibly contact.First things first though: Follow Me
1. Breathe in
2. Breathe out
3. Repeat over and over
Ok, now that we have that out of the way, here are some links you might find useful.
Dr Frank Varon, a resident expert here, talks about depression being a symptom in diabetics in this article called Is Diabetes a crisis?
There was also an article by the Diabetes Care Medical Journal, that states findings by the Centers for Disease Control that depression is directly related to diabetes. You can read the article here.
You are also not alone in your fight with diabetes and depression. There are several users online who have been dealing with significant bouts of depression. You can read some of their postings below.
Justgeo1 has been dealing with some depression as well as beginning Byetta with a few issues.
Nsalley got some great advice from gingervieira in this post about depression and diabetes. Ginger is a type 1 diabetic and college writer who has shared alot of her own experiences online.
Ddiabetic is both diabetic and diagnosed depressed and shares her experiences in her blogs locate here.
I hope you find this information helpful. Nothing takes the place of your doctor's advice and care, but together we can all share information and experiences and perhaps make it easier for us all to live this life of change.
Please stay in touch Jody and let us know how you are doing!

Metformin Side Effects

Hi Jody,
You are not alone. I have had bipolar 1 for the past 20+ years, I have had fairly good
control over it with little medication.
I control my lifestyle i.e. getting proper sleep, no drugs or drinking acohol,
try to keep the stress low, moderate exercise etc.
Last year I was diagnosis with celiac, now I have been following the
gluten free diet, it was struggle, I was fairly anger for a while, but seemed
to be doing pretty well after the first 6 months. 10 days ago I was told I have type 2 diabetes and should reduce my sugars and carbs.
I'm having a very difficult time with my mood. I'm angery and edgy all the time.
I was reading on line tonight that carbs and serotoin are linked.
Apparently carbs naturally increase serotoin levels. Take those carbs away
and depression and anger seem to increase. My plan is to talk to my Dr about
getting some medication to help increase the serotoin level.
I have had to take a few weeks off work to try and get control over this
which is causing financial stress as well.
Good luck
