pump gal 1956

By pump gal 1956 Thursday, October 04, 2007

Hi, I am a 68 year old female with type 1 and 1/2 diabetes.  I have had it for 9 years.  I have been on the pump for 1 and 1/2 years.  I am now having a terrible time with high numbers.  I am working with my endroconologist and diabetes educator and are gradually making changes with the settings of the pump.  I am going to a dietician on October 15...first time in years.  I eat healthy...never cheat!  But things seem to be going haywire.

I have started Lexapro and this is my third week on it.  My question is...do you think being on this medication could start my numbers to go sky high? Today wasn't too bad...a few days ago I had numbers in the 200's and even a few 300's.  My AIC in April was 7.3....At the end of Sept. it went down to 7.12..but now with these numbers, it must be so high.  I was 6.8 on my appointment with the endo 6mos. before the 7.3 AIC.  My endo has been on vacation this week, so I have been speaking to my diabetic educator.  I will call her tomorrow with the numbers of the past few days...they don't like to make to many changes in the pump settings at one time.  Thanks for listening and I hope you can answer my question about the Lexapro....or for that matter...any new medication that one might begin.

Looking at the Lexapro USPI I don't see anything that it would be likely to interfere with your glucose control.

I'd wonder if it's either the underlying disorder that triggered the doctor's decision to start you on this medication, or perhaps something completely coincidental.

In any case, I wouldn't stop the Lexapro at this time.

Hope this helps!

Thank you, Dr. Quick, for responding.  I was put on Lexapro because I have always been an anxious person and being a diabetic adds to that anxiety.  Today begins my fourth week on Lexapro.  I am going to a dietician next Monday at my Endocronologist office.  I haven't been to one in years.  I am very careful of what I eat...count carbs religiously...I am on the pump.  I sent my numbers to my Dr. last night .... we will work on bring these numbers down.  It's just that I have been running high for so long now that I am concerned about complications down the road.  My A1C's have gone from 6.6, 6.8, 7.3 and last month, 7.12.  But I am sure that it is on it's way up.

I wonder if you have ever heard of my Drs. at the Endocrine Group in Albany, NY.?  Dr. Robert Busch and Dr. Jill Abelseth, who I see for the pump.  Thanks Again, Pump Gal 1956

Hi Pump Gal,

Can you tell me what a Type 1 1/2 diabetic is? I have never heard that term. I have heard of being a "brittle" diabetic meaning real lows and real highs.

Thanks!

Vicki
