A Visit to South Beach

Reprinted with permission of Amy Tenderich of DiabetesMine.com   I may be the last would-be weight watcher in the country to discover the South Beach Diet. The cover of the book by Dr. Arthur Agatston, MD, brags that it's a New York Times bestseller, and it even sports a pop-out button stating...

I started the South Beach diet about a month ago.  I have type 2 and have had it for about 7 years.  I've reached a point (should have reached it years ago) and I'm sick and tired of taking meds.  In the month I've been on it I've lost 14 pounds.  Not a huge amount but just knowing I can do it is great.  I feel great.  I'm eating more vegetables than I ever thought possible and rarely have bread or potatoes or even pasta.  I don't even miss those things.  Believe me I thought I would.  It's hard to lose weight between the diabetes and the meds but this seems to be working.

I JUST WONDERED IF ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE IS DOING THIS DIET IN MY SAME SITUATION. I'M GETTING UP AT 5AM TO THE GYM AS WELL AND WONDERING WHO'S GOT IDEAS ON WHAT TO EAT IF I WAKE UP WITH A LOW. YESTERDAY I HAD BS OF 65. I DRANK SOME OJ WHICH I DIDN'T WANT TO DO BUT HAD NO CHOICE. WORKED OUT FOR 30 MINS. FEEL GREAT! I'VE LOWERED MY BASAL RATES WHICH IS GREAT TOO! THERE'S TONS OF INFO ON THE TYPE 2 DIABETIC BUT NEVER ENOUGH ON THE TYPE 1 AND REALLY IT'S 2 DIFFERENT DISEASES. ANYONE WITH SUGGESTIONS COULD YOU PLEASE POST A REPLY? ALSO, I'M NOT HUNGRY FOLLOWING DAY 3 OF THE DIET ALLTHOUGH I'M HAVING HUNGER PAINS.... NORMAL?

THANKSCool
