About Me

Learn a little, laugh a little with Amy Tenderich of Diabetes Mine.

Amy Tenderich is a freelance journalist based in San Francisco, CA. She holds a BA in Journalism from Cal State Long Beach and an MA in Communication Studies from UC Santa Barbara. She began her career as a journalist, and has experience in magazine editing, marketing and PR. Following two stints overseas and 13 years of communications work in the Silicon Valley technology industry, she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in May 2003, and subsequently launched DiabetesMine.com, “a gold mine of straight talk and encouragement for people living with diabetes.”

As a relatively new Type 1 diabetic and professional writer, Ms. Tenderich takes an unusual “cynically optimistic” view of the trials of living with diabetes. She speaks creatively and from the heart — to people with diabetes and their family, friends, and community — on topics ranging from inside looks at diabetes research and breaking news to daily life with diabetes to uncovering the diabetics’ deepest hopes and fears. And she can make you chuckle.

Ms. Tenderich and Diabetes Mine were featured in the Wall St. Journal in May 2005. And DiabetesMine.com was named “Best Diabetes Blog” for 2006 by the Diabetes Online Community.

Ms. Tenderich is happily married, and does double-duty as the very busy mother of three extraordinary little girls.
