On January 26, 2007 I started eating according to Dr. Neal Bernard's Program for Reversing Diabetes. I cut my insulin usage in half by the third day -- before I had even really lost any weight. Since then I have lost about 60 pounds and have been completely off of insulin for the past four weeks. I do also rely heavily on various vitamins, minerals and herbs -- I have tried just about everything I've ever seen recommended anywhere that I didn't think would hurt me, but it does seem to be an individual thing -- depending upon what it is that your body needs. If you do experiment, do it carefully! Be certain the things you try are actually supportive of the systems that diabetes tends to ravage and start with a SMALL amount initially and TEST, TEST, TEST your blood sugars. As for myself, I have also had to accept that I must walk after both breakfast and dinner, but it can be as little as a leisurely 30 minute stroll (which I am fortunate enough to be able to do on my treadmill in front of the TV!)
