So far, in our new journey in diabetic land, we are still just out the door. We've received his diagnosis and we've been working on educating ourselves, which is piece-y at best. Tomorrow, my husband goes to his first class - Ontario Health Insurance provides these diabetic education classes to learn about nutrition, exercise and measuring glucose levels.
Over the last week or more we've just been doing our best at guessing what is good and bad for my husband, the new diabetic. Most of the time he just complains about headaches and hunger. He is not used to eating many snacks so he feels like he's eating all the time. He's been managing the headaches with a little bit of orange juice. I've been combing the aisles at the grocery store looking for cereals, breads and other snacks that might be good for him. Hopefully at the class tomorrow, he can find out for sure.
I hate the mystery. Drives me crazy not knowing how we did today. Did I feed him well? Were his portions too big? When we get the blood monitor it definitely will help a lot. Poor guy. I will probably poke him to death.
