Hi Barb,
It can be difficult for the caregiver of a diabetic to follow every test, medicine dosage and difficulty. He's lucky to have you!
Here is some information to help you learn about what he's going through and ask the right questions of his doctor. This isn't everything you need to know, but it's a great start!
I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, but your husband apparently has type 1. I didn't realize there was a difference between diabetes diagnosis. I figured diabetes is diabetes, right? So the first thing I read was the overview about diabetes located here. Then I moved on to the symptoms because I realized that I had symptoms I was not expecting and I did not exhibit symptoms I thought I should which contributed to my not getting medical help for some time. The symptoms list is located here. Then I started looking into the medications I was being prescribed. Found out why some drugs were causing certain effects and others weren't working well. The drug database is located here. Finally, I figured, there has to be a better way and I checked into the treatment database to learn about new treatments and new protocols. I have also been an avid reader of David Mendosa for sometime (profile shareposts)
For support, there is a fantastic community here of people just like you, taking care of people with diabetes living it all one day at a time. If you ever feel the need to vent or want to share a particularly good day for you, or just need to ask a question, feel free to post and lots of folks will answer.
Take care and stay in touch!! Let us know how you and your husband are doing!
