  • Let me first thank you all for the warm welcome! I look forward to talking with you over the coming year as we get healthy and fit (or more fit as the case may be for those already on their way) together .

     

    As we’ve just met, you may not know that I am not a numbers person. It’s true. However, I do know that some are supposed to go up (like revenue at our day jobs) and some are supposed to go down (like how many M&M’s you eat at one sitting) and only a few are supposed to hold steady. 

     

    Assuming that my height will stay the same and that my blood pressure is pretty good – all other numbers below need to go in the “supposed to go down” category.

    January 20, 2010 –

     

    Week 3 of …of…(Seeking catchy theme or motto for the year. Suggestions welcomed. My best so far: Birth of a Cougar.)

     

    Height: 5’6”

    Weight: 198 lbs.

    BMI: 31.6 (Ouch! According to more than one calculator I am “obese”)

    Hips: 44 in.

    Waist: 37 in.

    Chest: 44 in.

    Fasting glucose: 236 this morning (what did I eat last night?)

    Meds:

    2x500 mg Metformin twice a day

    10 mg Glipizide

    10 mg Ezetimibe (Zetia)

    100 mg Sertraline (my get-along-with-people pills)

    1 one aspirin

    1 multivitamin

     

    From my last Dr. Z visit:

     

    A1C: 7.0 (this was 6 months ago – I’m sure it’s higher currently)

    Blood pressure: 112/75

    Cholesterol

    HDL: 43

    LDL: 105

    Triglycerides: 133

     

    Not-so-good choices in the form of things consumed over the last week:            

    • 5 diet sodas
    • 4 pints of Shiner Bock beer  (at a friend’s 40th birthday party)
    • 2 glasses of red wine
    • 2 burgers
    • 2 orders of French fries (oh how I love the good ones).

    Next: The mathematical equations that have become my meals.
