I get the being cynically optimistic thing regarding a future with diabetes.  As a 45 year old diabetic who was diagnosed in 1962, I understand that living with Type 1 diabetes for 44 years can be annoying. I was lucky enough to be diagnosed back when my Mom used to boil the glass needles everyday to clean them!  There are a lot of ways to approach this disease, but my approach has always been JOY. I am not ignoring the seriousness of this disease, but have chosen to accept a given.  After 44 years, you have a lot of brushes with death as a Type 1 diabetic. It has given me the appreciation that every day is a Gift when you are a diabetic.  Even if not a diabetic..  Keep Going........Peace     Bob
