New Relationship with someone of Type 1 Diabetes.

By I_love_aubrey2007 Wednesday, November 07, 2007

I have recently been involved in a new relationship. We love each other and have only dated for about a month or so now. I haven't ever been around someone with diabetes before and so I am obviously curious about it.

His blood sugar gets really high alot and i just found out what the average was. It is suppose to be from 80-120. His has been, 84, 486, 284, 223, 179, etc. I ask him if he wants me to check his sugar and he says later. When I ask him questions about it he seems to get annoyed.

Recently I asked him why he didn't carry his pack around that checks his blood sugar level and he said he doesn't like to check it. When I said "well you should though." He said I was getting annoying with that stuff.

Im not trying to. I mean he is the one who asked me to check it. He is the one who told me to keep making him do it. He just gets really cranky when his sugar is up and stuff. Plus I don't know enough about it. I started researching today though.

He wanted me to know about it and when I ask questions he gets annoyed. What is with that?!

Anyway. If anyone can give me some basic information to help me understand his condition, please email me at: beautifully_shattered2006@yahoo.com

I would appreciate it alot. I care about him and I just wanna know more.

Thanks so much,

Morgan Nicole

Hi Morgan,

Congratulations on your new relationship!! Finding someone special is indeed a gift.

There is some great information here about type 1 diabetes that will help you help your boyfriend. Sounds to me he is like many men who just find the regimin of taking care of something like this bothersome. My mother in law was in charge of my father in law's diabetes for 50 years. She regulated what he ate, when he took his medicine and made him test 4 times a day. It was a labor of love for her. Your mileage may vary lol.

Take care, and let us know how you and he are doing!!
