Sunday, July 15, 2007 at 09:14 AMRay,I went to my doctor who rejected my doing it, so I talked to my CDE and she offered reasonable goals and we monitored my progress daily. Since I was having a smoothie every two hours I was testing every two hours, and add to that bedtime and first thing in the morning. You have to be religious about following the BG numbers to know how your body is reacting. And set limits to know when to stop.I think if you are considering fasting, have someone in your diabetes care system who can help you with it. I thought I would do it one day, and just found I was able to do it longer then I thought. But my confidence to continue was the fact that I had my CDE be my whistle blower! If she said stop I was bound by the rules to stop.My advice is talk to your doc and CDE and see what they have to say. Fasting can take many forms. Lent and Yom Kippur, for example, are forms of religious fasting, but people don't give up nutrition. Sometimes I think we get hung up on extremes and we miss the real value.Keep us posted on your journey!Ann

Your experience with fasting was interesting. But I wonder how it would have been in my situation. I have Type 2 Diabetes and take long-acting Lantus once a day. I also take Avandia once daily. Between them and watching what foods I eat I am able to keep my blood sugar between 80 - 160.
I would like to fast both for physical cleansing and for religious/spiritual reasons. What kind of regimin would it be best for me to follow ?
