Wordless Wednesday: The Gene Pool

By Ann Bartlett, Health Guide Wednesday, July 25, 2012

Me (far left), diagnosed with diabetes in 1970. Mom (center), diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2008. Think "autoimmune." Is there a link?

Great photo.  You were such a cutie!  So many reported benefits from coconut oil  for Alzheimers.

Hey you!  Good to hear from you, Joan!  I need to catch up and see how all goes...

Every little bit helps doesn't it?!

This whole thing with Alzhiemer's drives me crazy with the holistic prevention and what benefits.  Recently, there was an in depth report that said increased exercise prevents Alzhiemer's.  I can assure everyone that is not the case for my mom! Mom has always been nutritionally savvy, exploratory on the holistic front and she was an avid athlete all her life. For her 80th birthday, she hiked the south rim of the Grand Canyon and later that year she hiked the glaciers in Alaska.  In 2004, she and took a trip to England and hiked cronwall and Cotswalds averaging 6-10 miles per day for 2 weeks. My clip was pretty hardy and she was right behind me the whole time.

Surprisingly, after 3 years she is still doing well, getting out daily for walks, works at reading the paper, loves stimulating conversation.  she has a few moments that seem confused, but I've learned it's less about confused and more the struggle that she can not think of the words to express herself. So I just try to out fox the disease, by offering her what I think she is searching for and she gives me an enthusiatic "Yes! That's what I was looking for." every day is different, but I'm grateful to have her around. Smile
