Diet Pop and Diabetes

I have been a diabetic for +25 yrs and was just wondering if I am not supposed to drink diet pop because of the so-called poison "aspartame", what is there left to drink???!!!!Personally, I don't think it really has any effect on my diabetes, as some articles say, but I have noticed that about the same time I became a diabetic...
