People with diabetes are much more likely to die from a heart attack or stroke. Over time, high blood sugar levels can lead to increased deposits of fatty materials on the insides of the blood vessels. These deposits may increase the chance of clogging and hardening of blood vessels. Also, heart attacks in people with diabetes are more likely to be fatal.
