Q: I am drinking an energy drink with 15 gms sugar in an 8.4 fl. oz. can.

I have a friend recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and is worried about the energy drink he is using. It contains 15gms sugar in 8.4 oz can. It is made from acaii berry and no additives are supposed to be in it. Is this too much sugar? Is it all right if it is from the berry alone?

If it is only 15 grams of sugar in a can that is only 1 carb. I don't know his diet or anyhting but 1 carb is good. My diet has me on 4 carbs for breakfast 3 carbs for lunch and 4 carbs at night with snakes in between Reply

I found out that I was Type II Diabetic 10 years ago and have NEVER had to go on medicine (full time, I only use occasionally when I can't resist a VERY special sweet like Tiramisu - I only have about once every 6 months or so).  I keep my blood sugar between 90-110 and I NEVER go over 15 grams of sugar PER DAY.  I would be very hesitant to have 15 grams of sugar in an energy drink...I think that's too much (for me).  I would suggest EAS Myoplex drinks (I buy at Sam's Club)...has 15 to 18 grams of PROTEIN and ZERO sugars.  The chocolate is excellent and I get the vanilla and put instant coffee in to make a latte coffee flavor! The best of luck to you!
