To meld the previous two answers together, yes, test strips can be prescribed and if you have insurance coverage, may cover all or some of the cost. That being said, I use Relion from Walmart myself as buying them myself is still cheaper than what my deductable would be on others, which usually cost twice as much or more than Walmart's.   I don't want to get all weepy eyed for Walmart, but their Relion Brand really can be a diabetic's best friend when it comes to supplies.
