Hi John's Daughter,   Generally, diabetics should eat a healthy diet of complex carbohydrates, lean proteins, vegetables, and fruit, just like everyone else.  The types of meals that are particularly difficult for diabetics to manage include refined carbohydrates (white rice, pasta, bread, sugary desserts, etc.) Also, meals with high fat contents can raise blood sugars for several hours after the meal.    People with type 1 diabetes can typically cover most food items with an accurate dose of insulin (easier said than done!) While type 2 diabetics who are not taking insulin will experience high blood sugars after eating meals with a lot of carboydrates.  For the most part, diabetics don't have to avoid any particular food completely, as long as they practice portion control and take their medication properly.   Good luck!
