Johnson-

Your A1C is pretty good! Consult with your Doctor about Byetta, he or she will be able to let you know if Byetta is the right choice for you. We have a lot of information on Byetta and if you click the word Byetta, it will lead you to the side effects, sharepost from David Mendoza and the recent news about Byetta. Good luck on getting your A1C down even further. I know a few people who would kill to have an A1C of 6.4.Wink

What's reg glucose?  If your fasting (before breakfast) sugar is normal, you still need to check your sugar 2 hours after you eat to make sure it's not high then.  If so, then you may be insulin resistant.  In fact this is the first stage of type 2 diabetes- a normal fasting sugar, but starting to creep higher after meals.

Byetta may well be good for you.  I would try it if, as above, your post meal sugar is high OR if anyone in your family has diabetes.  It should help you lose some weight, so that along with diet and exercise is the best way to stave off diabetes.  If you are officially diabetic, you could consider metformin instead- it can help lose weight too.

As far as side effects go, byetta may be associated with pancreatitis, so if any history of that, or if you drink alcohol frequently, there may be a risk with byetta.  Overall, I have seen patients lose weight with it, so if you are at risk for diabetes, it's worth a shot.

Good luck- keeping on top of your health now will pay dividends later :)
