A 12 year old with diabetes should have the same normal range of thyroid hormone (free T4) and Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) as someone without diabetes. The ranges of normal are based on your laboratory's reference range. Your child should be further evaluated by your physician if he/she has a high TSH/low TSH or high/low free T4 based on the lab's reference range. Hope this helps.
