Is it normal for your blood sugar levels to go up while your body is healing from a broken rib?

I was involved in a bicycle accident.  I was struck by a van and had a broken rib, bruised lung, and partially collapsed lung.  Since the accident my blood sugar levels have gone up dramatically.  I was wondering if the increase in levels is due to my body going through the healing process?

My doctor told me that any injury causes your system to stress. When your systems stresses your blood sugars will go up. Mine did this after i have ankle surgery and right after i hurt my ankle as well. Just try to keep your carbs down and eat less since your not as active.
