can I stop diabetic "pins and needles" pain in my feet?
Recently diagnosed Type II, 55 years old, not overweight, Last two months
of blood checks point to "Dawn Phenomenon" Morning readings avg. 182-230, with
some spikes as high as 300. After dinner readings 112. Pins and needles for last
9 months. Tried a pepper spray cream,,, worked a little, but later my feet just
burned. Can I reverse this feeling?
Gabaopentin may help you...ask your doctor.
As I was suffering from lower back pain that caused restless sleep and much pain, my primary doc order X-rays and labs to see what was going on. End result- degenerative disk disease with a nerve compromised. Another doc to whom I was referred reviewed my recent history and prescribed 2 drugs (Gabopentin and Robaxin) to help the healing and allow me to relax. When I showed the order to a nurse (in another setting) she said, "That drug is also prescribed for diabetic nerve pain. Since taking it, my toes don't tingle and my pain is reduced as well.

When I saw this reply, I just had to make a comment, too, on the gabopentin.
Recently, my doctor put me on the gabapentin, but then after a few days I noticed that my leg was swelling from ankle to knee, so I went off of it. The pain is still there but the swelling in my leg has been reduced. I am on a water pill (furosemide) but I had never experienced the swelling of my entire leg til I was on the gabopentin.
A few years ago, I tried Lyrica, but that caused me other side effects.
I think I'd rather try something that's a cream, if they have that.
But it's always best to consult your doctor (I am not).
I am Type II, female, w/diabetic neuropathy - I have the tingling and sometimes a sharp shooting pain, but not the burning sensations.

I was on Lyrica for several weeks and had side effects of being dizzy, more swollen ankles than is my usual (tho' I am on a water pill), and so the doctor suggested that I go off of it, as it wasn't worth the side effects when it really wasn't taking care of the problem.
I just feel I'm doomed to just tolerate the pain as I have been doing now for several years!

theirs not much to do for them, no matter what my blood sugars are low or in the 180's my feet still has pins and needles, lotions don't help,i just try to keep my A1c every six month in the 6.5 range then the pins and needles aren't so bad. my blood sugars ranges are 98 in am. 150's after lunch. and 100 2 hours after dinner.

Dan,
I've had good luck with a supplement called "Benfotiamine." It was recommended by my diabetic podiatrist several years ago, and while I've had to increase the amount I take (to 3 pills 2 x/day), it helps a great deal, but does not completely eliminate the burning sensations. It's only available online; I've ordered from Benfotiamine.net, Vita-Cost and Swanson Health Products, and all have been about equal in terms of effectiveness, so if you decide to go this route, decide based on price-equivalence per pill.

Go to "Rebuilder" on the internet. My son bought this for me two years ago, and I couldn't go on living without it.
I'm 73 so at the time it was so new that Medicare didn't pay for it, but they do now.....
It's wonderful.......try it

If you drink diet-sodas, don't use ones that are sweetened with aspartame. Not good for neuropathy.

So far I have not found anything that really works. There are a lot of times I do not have any sensation at all in my toes. When I do it is usually sharp stabbing jabbing pains. My legs just have a sort of uncomfortable running sensation that shoots down my legs. If you find anything I would appreciate it if you could pas the information along.
